The visibility was great again today for our summer dive site. We launched from the Kleinbaai harbour just before the sun was coming up behind the mountains. Arrived at the dive site after a ten minute boat ride we first got to see a beautiful sunrise. We immediately got dressed in the wetsuits and then the first shark arrived, how lucky to wait just a few minutes. Our first Great White shark was estimated to be around 2.8 meter. Shortly after we saw the shark, we also spotted some stingrays coming closer to the cage. During the trip we encountered five different individual sharks. The sharks we gracefully passing the cage, but also investigating the bait and seal decoy. Our biggest shark for this trip was estimated to be around 3.5m in length.

The second trip of the day was an exclusive for a group visiting from the United Kingdom. The sharks were present from the beginning with a large male started the trip of with a fantastically, it was however the smaller White sharks that really made this trip, including a juvenile under the 3.0m length with white marks on its right flank that showed some active behaviour and a larger female, dark in dorsal surface colour and with some scratch marks on her head that whilst not one to move fast or leap around she continuously cruises around the boat slowly giving our those in the cage and on board a great view. Not to miss out on the action, “Brian” our newly tagged White shark came by for a visit towards the end of the trip. Great to still see this shark in the bay after his tagging two weeks ago.

The third and final trip of the day launched to some increased wind causing some choppier conditions however the sharks were not phased at all and we had sightings from the beginning till the end of the trip with new sharks consistantly turning up to the boat. We had many of our previous sharks return for this trip including the feisty juvenile and the larger, slower female however we did have a new shark appear during this trip with some damage appearing somewhat new to it’s dorsal fin. Unfortunately this shark did not stick around and whilst there did not surface giving us a clear view of this fin, we hope to see it again soon. A fantastic end to the day with a hgih number of sightings, range of sizes (between 2.4m to 4.0m) and varying activity.
