After a short safety briefing at the Great White House, we walked down the road to the Kleinbaai harbour. Our boat ‘Slashfin’ was already waiting on the jetty and for us ready to board. Once out the harbour we were heading straight to the Jubertsdam our dive site for the day and we have been lucky, as a three meter white shark approached us very soon after we dropped the anchor. In total we have seen four different individuals during our trip. Our biggest shark was estimated to be around four meter and it arrived towards the end of our tour. The shark was slowly approaching us through the chum slick so we could see him already in the distance. We all had a great time out at sea and its always a great treat to see these apex predators.
The first shark quickly appeared after we did for our second trip of the day however the activity was a little slow at the beginning with a large male that appeared quite shy and happy to cruise at a distance hanging around for the first 30 minutes however things picked up with the second arrival a small but fast and feisty male that displayed beautiful behaviour with nice surface attempts on the lines allowing a great look at the shark. Things yet again got a little quite, a bit like they say “the calm before the storm” as within moments we had multiple new sharks arrived all of which were over the 4.0m length and with some close passes and spy hopping present giving everyone, including the crew such a great sight. A FINominal afternoon out on sea surrounded by these magnificent creatures!
