A bright and early launch on a perfect Summers day. Slashfin’s first group launched from Kleinbaai Harbour at 7:30am and we quickly made our way onto anchor in the Shallows. Once the group had wiggled into their wetsuits the wait began for the sharks to arrive, however it was not a long wait today with a Copper shark appearing soon after we had. The conditions were fantastic with the visibility quite nice for this time of the year making for some great views of the sharks underwater and pleasant viewing from the deck of the boat, as the Coppers cruised around for most of the trip, standing out clearing with their bronzed dorsal surface colour against the light blue waters of the bay.
The second trip of the day was an exlcusive for a large family group. This group also experienced some great Copper shark sightings and by this time we had started to see a slight increase in the water temperature from the morning session, making the decision to plunge into the sea a lot easier for many. Before making the short trip back to land, Slashfin made it’s way by the Islands to have a closer look at the Cape Fur seal colony on Geyser Rock, with the seals enjoying the beautiful Summer weather as much as we were.
A new anchor spot was chosen for the last trip of the day, a little closer to shore, we experience a slight drop in the visibility but on the other hand a slight increase in the water temperature for the afternoon. We had a great trip with great conditions and even great activity as Copper sharks came by for a visit, making close passes by the cage and allowing those still on board a fantastic view.
Overall, a lovely December day out on the sea, unfortunately no White sharks seen today.
