A bright and early start this Saturday morning for the crew and guests of Slashfin as we set out for the Shallows. We were the second boat on anchor and with just a short wait of approximately 30 minutes, enough time for everyone to get changed and settle, our first sharks appeared, as multiple Copper sharks came swimming in and soon after a little Great White shark. This White shark was the juvenile male we have been seeing on and off for the last week that our guests nicknamed ‘Fortnight’ due to it being the first Great White to appear at the boat after a 14 day period of no sharks. Unfortunately he did not grace us with his presence for too long and left us to enjoy the Copper sharks which kept a constant flow of activity throughout the entire trip. We also had two friendly Short-tailed stingrays towards the end of the trip, gliding up from the depths before disappearing back down.
The second trip of the day launched and the Copper sharks were yet again at it quickly. This species kept up the activity throughout the trip and just when it looked like the White sharks were not going to appear for this group Mini Nemo, one of our Iconic White sharks we welcomed back yesterday after seven months out of the bay, came hurtling out of nowhere. He kept things going for the rest of the trip, showing off with his signature moves, fast and furious!
The third and final trip of the day launched this afternoon and those bronze coloured fishy friends of ours were around yet again. Playing nicely, they appeared to be happy to stick around making close passes by the cage and boat, with the sun shining down, highlighting the reason behind their name, that beautiful copper/bronze colour.
