Sharks, sharks and more sharks! We headed out today to absolutely perfect shark cage diving conditions. We anchored in a similar spot to yesterday’s second anchor and had only minutes to wait until our first shark arrived. From this point to the end of our trip we had at least one shark around the boat, in fact at one point we had four different sharks easily visible swimming around in front of the cage. We also witnessed sharks coming very close together, even to the point that they were swimming alongside each other. We generally don’t see this happening as these sharks are solitary creatures and prefer to keep to their own space, which means we usually see individuals quickly veering away from each other when they  invade the other’s personal space. The sheer quantity of sharks today could only be out done by the giant size of these creatures. Five of our sharks were 4m or above, including our favourite female from yesterday’s trip who was just as curious and friendly today. Not only did we have a large number of sharks around us today we had amazing visibility so that we could see them beautifully. The visibility can change day by day and is affected by several factors in this area. Some of these factors include sediment being carried into the ocean from rivers or run off from storms that results in murky water, the stirring up of sand, silt and mud from the oceans floor due to currents and waves and blooms of microscopic plants and animals. Today the conditions had been in our favour and we could easily see vertically and horizontally in and above the water! Its days like these that it doesn’t matter whether we look left, right, in front or down there is likely a Great White around to see…
