Trip 1
It was a beautiful day to be out on the water with a warm, sunny day and just a slight breeze to keep things fresh on board. The sharks arrived quickly with only a 15 minute wait for our morning trip as a 2.5m juvenile White shark was the first to approach the boat. Once this little shark was around more continued to follow with a few new individuals to the bay spotted, ones that we have not become so familiar with yet this year however towards the end of our trip came three that we know quite well. These three were all males, the first was “Dolphin fin” the juvenile male with a curved tip to the dorsal fin, the adult male with a rolled tip to the dorsal fin that we refer to as “Tarm K” and then another adult male that was tagged by American research group Ocearch in 2012 with a satellite tag and goes by the name “Sellendilloh”. The information for this shark can be accessed publicly on the Ocearch website here and includes pictures of his tagging along with general information on this shark and his tracks over the last 5 years.
Trip 2
The second trip of the day was off to a flying start with a shark spotted cruising close by as we approached our anchor site. The start of this trip saw all the smaller White sharks coming by, and whilst the juveniles are very interesting with their active behaviour many of our guests are hoping to see one of the big sharks, the sharks that epitomise the idea of a White shark, long, broad and dark in dorsal surface colour with a stark white underbelly and this is exactly what we started to see towards the end of our trip with multiple large males over the 4.0m length cruising on in. Whilst the visibility did start to decrease this afternoon due to a red tide moving through the bay, these large sharks were happy to come quite close to us allowing our divers and those on board a fantastic view.
