Spring has sprung with the first day of September bringing beautiful conditions and amazing sharks! The first trip of the day launched at 9am and made its’ way straight into the Shallows and onto anchor where we had a little time to enjoy the sunshine before our first White showed itself. The first to arrive was ‘Scarlett’, an estimated 4.2m female and one of Marine Dynamics ten Iconic White sharks. She didn’t stick around for too long but really did leave a great impression with her sheer size shocking those onboard and her slow determined movements and spy hopping causing much excitement. Soon after a smaller female ‘Sarko” appeared and made a few passes before disappearing and allowing the Copper sharks to move on in and allow our guests to observe not one but two different species of sharks! Not to be outdone the White sharks returned with a new addition, a juvenile male only seen for the first time yesterday and another large female that appears to be another new individual to the bay. Before trip’s end we also encountered a Short-tailed stingray and had ‘Sarko” coming back to bid us farewell with some of the most FIN-tastic activity we have seen since the sharks started to reappear in the bay approximately three weeks ago. The trip finished with a detour through Shark Alley to have a closer look at Geyser Rock and its’ Cape Fur seal inhabitants before heading back to shore.
The second trip of the day launch and was off to a great start with a Copper shark approaching within minutes of re-anchoring with the stars of the show, the White sharks, following only minutes behind. Scarlett once again was fabulous with some awesome passes, and some of our guests comparing her to a bus! She is truly magnificent. Sarko wasn’t far behind with some more energy than Scarlett this afternoon, as she sped around Slashfin keeping our cage divers on their toes. The small scarred female briefly glided by us as well, but that was it from her this afternoon. What happened next though was stunning. We had Scarlett coming in deep close to the cage, while Sarko glided at the surface, and our fourth shark announcing her presence with a bang as she leapt out of the water. There were sharks left right and centre! Not only were we lucky with our white sharks today, but also the Copper Sharks. At one point this afternoon we had 7, yes that’s right 7 Copper sharks circling Slashfin. They also gave our cage divers some fantastic action underwater too. A magical start to spring!
