A early, bright and breezy day today with Slashfin yet again launching right with the start of the day. The bay was flat but a slightly elevated east wind made for slightly bumpy but refreshing conditions.
The sharks were a little on the shy side today but by the end of the day we had two successful trips for Marine Dynamics and it’s guests. The day involved both Copper and White sharks however the encounters with the Copper sharks were brief as if the presence of the large White sharks now seen over the last week are perhaps keeping them at a distance. The White sharks that we encountered today were an interesting mix with a few anchor changes before our first one appeared. This was a sub adult male, very pale in colour and not too happy to stick around as he made a pass by the bait dove deep and disappeared by the back of the boat, maybe it had something to do with the second shark that appeared…Mini Nemo. The well known male of the bay, an individual we have seen coming and going over the last three months from the area, he is easily identifiable by the stunted right pectoral fin that earnt him his name. He too wasnt in the mood to stick around or really come close to the surface however he did return for the afternoon trip, but could it be the big females currently dominating the area, bossing the smaller males around? With Mini Nemo disappearing, one such big female showed herself, making a spectacular attempt on the bait line before she too dove to depths not viewable from the boat. The one shark that did persist for some time was the female that has been documented over the last week, just under 4.0m in length with bite scars on the right flank, she made some beautiful moves at the end of the first trip and started the second trip with a bang!
