Conditions: Little to no swell but a slight wind causing chop on the water.
Trip 1
The wind was up a little today causing some choppy conditions however it was still a nice day to be out on the water and after a bit of patience the first shark of the day showed itself. This was a large male just under 4.0m in length, one that is easily recognisable over the last week or so that it has been visiting the boat due to the parasite attachments, mostly around the head, dorsal fin and peduncle. A male very similar in size also appeared not too long after this one and was sporting a SPOT tag, that is a satellite tag. This was “Sellendilloh” the current shark in the bay that we are seeing with this global tracking device attached to it’s fin. This technology monitors the horizontal movements of the shark which you yourself can follow on the research group, Ocearch’s, website here. The other visitors this morning were three juvenile White sharks all under the 3.0m length and a Short-tailed stingray.
Trip 2
The second trip of the day headed out and on arrival back into the Shallows we moved anchor site and had our first White shark around within 10 minutes. This was a fiesty female that we have been seeing frequently over the last few days. She did not disappoint this trip and whilst she was the first shark to arrive she stuck with us for the entire trip and during the last cage made two very close passes by our divers in the water, so close that if the divers reached out they could have touched her. We had mostly juveniles around this afternoon, with the size ranging from a smaller 2.3m shark to a estimated 3.2m shark and of course similar to the first trip we had the Short-tailed stingray glide by a few times.
