Some dream of white sharks, we were up early this morning face to face with them. After a stunning sunrise ride out to the shallows, we dropped anchor and got ready to meet the famous white shark. We weren’t disappointed either, as out of nowhere a 3 meter female announced herself out of nowhere, closely followed by Sarko. Both sharks gave us excellent passes and some great picture opportunities in the cage. With the stingrays and copper sharks also joining us we were spoilt for choice. But wait there’s more! One of our larger ladies glided by the cage, estimated at 4.4 meters, she was a fantastic girl. Dispelling all the common myths about white sharks, she gracefully swam the length of Slashfin a couple of times before disappearing into the depths. Finally one of the smaller ladies of the bay joined us at around 2 meters in length; she was small, but still beautiful as she checked out our cage divers.
The second trip of the day continued in a similar fashion to the first, with spectacular conditions abover water, a perfect time to be on the boat with flat, calm seas and the sunning shining showing us Spring is here. We had a small anchor change before our first White shark appeared. This was a male approximately 3.6m in length, one we can identifiy quite easily on sight as he has a bite scar on the right side of his trunk and reminents of an acoustic tag. This male was spotted back in January of this year, today was the first day this since that we have seen him, welcome back to the bay! We also had to small juveniles show up to the boat throughout the trip, one that was very curious as about everything that was floating on the surface, including pieces of kelp! Copper sharks and Short-tailed stingrays also joined us to make a fantastic trip.
The third and final trip was an exclusive for a couple visiting from the United Kingdom. We launched and could immediately feel the pick up in the wind however the conditions stayed relatively nice for most of the afternoon. We had a few changes in anchor after spotting Copper sharks but no White sharks, our third anchor proved successful with the two juveniles from the second trip reappearing for our new guests.
