Trip 1
It was another beautiful day at sea today with great shark activity! Our first trip started with a short 20 minute wait for sharks. By the time all of the divers were suited up, a shark was approaching the boat. It didn’t take long for a shark that we call “Mandy” to appear. She’s a beautiful shark that measures about 2.8 meters in length. She is known for doing numerous slow passes in front of the cage, disappearing for a bit, then coming back with some spunk. She loves the decoy and is constantly making attempts to get it. “Mandy” was also joined by a short tailed stingray and a newly named shark. This shark is called “Seahaus” and was recently adopted by a former client. If you are interested in adopting a shark and naming it, please contact Dyer Island Conservation Trust and they can assist you with the process.

Trip 2
Our second trip was just as lucky as the first trip! “Mandy” had stuck around the cage and when we arrived she was waiting for our divers. We got our divers into the water and they were able to see just how beautiful “Mandy” is. She was accompanied by another large female that’s about 2.6 meters long. This shark has some very distinct white marks on her right side near her pelvic fins. She also has a white mark, most likely a healing wound, on her dorsal fin. It didn’t take long before we had 3 more sharks coming to visit our divers! A hagfish also decided that it wanted to come check out the divers and it even tried to swim into the cage! What lucky divers! Our final trip of the day was just as lucky as the second trip, with no waiting time before the first shark was spotted. This was a large shark measuring in at about 3.5 meters. It was later joined by a 2.1 meter long male with a healing wound on its left side.

Trip 3
Our third shark of the trip was very sneaky. It made a few very slow passes, eyeing the bait, the seal decoy and even making eye contact with a couple of our divers! Then it disappeared for about 20 minutes. When it returned, it surprised us all with a breach on the bait line! After a while “Mandy” decided that she wanted to come back and check out this trips divers. She lived up to her reputation, doing a couple of slow passes, then swimming off. It didn’t take long for her to return at full speed. She made 5 really amazing attempts at the bait line and seal decoy and everyone on board was very excited to see her. It was another amazing day at sea and everyone on board gained a new love for these majestic creatures!
