An early start this Sunday morning with a launch of 7am out of Kleinbaai Harbour, good news was that the sharks appeared to be up and at ‘em nice and early too with our first shark sighted not long after we arrived in the Shallows. The first three sharks of the morning were all small juveniles, with one, easily distinguished from the others due to some white marks towards it tail turning out to be one of the most active of the day. The sharks appeared to increase in size as the trip continued with some close to and above the 3.0m length in size coming by for a visit.
The second trip of the day launched and yet again had sharks around just as quickly as out first trip. The activity continued consistently for the entire trip with new arrivals and also some of the previous trip’s sharks re-appearing. We saw the feisty juvenile from earlier but also had “Mini Nemo”, a small male with a shortened right pectoral fin and “Gray” a 4.2m female and the largest of the trip turn up.
What a great third trip we had. The sea was calm at the beginning but the wind picked up towards the end of the trip. Also the visibility was a lot better than the previous day, we estimated to be around 3-4m. Shortly after we arrived at the dive site in the Jubertsdam the shark arrived around our vessel Slashfin. During the whole trip we had great shark activity. We’ve alsobeen lucky to see a short tailed stingray swiming passed the cage. The sharks were around non stop, out biggest was estimated to be around four meter just slightly smaller than our cage.
