Today was an outstanding day to be on the ocean! Upon arriving at our dive spot for our first trip, there was already a shark waiting for us just by the anchor line. It was a highly curious small shark that was 1.9 meters and as soon as the cage hit the water, it immediately came over to investigate. Within 2 minutes another much larger shark came by. These two sharks made numerous passes before another shark that was 3.5 meters in length came over and frightened them off. We constantly had sharks in front of the cage, sometimes even 2 sharks at once which can be quite rare to see. During this trip, there were 3 sharks that we know very well. One is “Caroline,” a beautiful 3 meter shark with a very distinct scar on her left side that looks a lot like a mustache. Another is “Scarlette,” a 4 meter female who is covered in scars on the top of her head and her sides- most likely from mating. And lastly was “Mini Nemo,” the tiny and fiesty shark known for his small right pectoral fin. All of the sharks put on quite a show, but these 3 were the stars of the trip! Our second trip was an exclusive trip in which a couple named Derek & Sarah rented out the boat. They didn’t have to wait long for a shark. Within 10 minutes, “Caroline” had returned and spent almost the entire trip with them. Towards the end, a male shark that was about the same size as “Caroline” but slender came by and checked our divers out. He was just as curious as “Caroline” and spent some time making numerous passes in front of the cage. Our third trip of the day was just as fortunate at the previous two. Within 15 minutes of setting up the cage, “Caroline” had returned. She was feeling quite playful, making several attempts at the decoy and bait line, then dissapearing into the depths. Everytime that we thought she had dissapeared, she would ambush attack the decoy or bait, taking the entire boat by suprise. It was an amazing site to see! Three other sharks came to join “Caroline,” each making a pass as she dissapeared into the shadows. Occasionally two would slowly cruise in front of the cage together, eyeing eachother and our divers. It was an absolutely outstanding day; we couldn’t have asked for better conditions nor better sharks!
