The lower tide called for a Gansbaai launch again this morning and we enjoyed a pleasent cruise around Danger Point with a Southern Right whale spotted as we made our way into anchor in the Shallows. The cage had already been placed out earlier in the morning before we collected our first trip guests and once on anchor we spotted a White shark quickly, gliding just under the waters’ surface in the distance yet this little shark had no interest in approaching us and after waiting it out for the next hour an anchor change was on the cards. We moved a little further out into the bay and as some of our guests took to the water even with sharks around the first shark appeared! A large individual that kept deep and did not want to come to the surface however shortly after seeing this one another appeared, Scarletjie, a 4.0m female, frequent visitor to the boat over the last week with easily identifiable scars all over her head and trunk and with her tail tip missing, she made some great passes and in turn saved our morning out on the sea.
The second trip of the day also encountered a White shark quickly after arriving back on site. This was a juvenile White shark, estimated at 2.0m in length and very pale in its’ dorsal surface colour. It kept deep, the increased visibility allowing the crew to see these passes however he did come to the surface once giving the guests on board a nice view. Things did go quite after this and soon the boat made its’ way back to the harbour.
