Rise and shine shark cage divers it’s time to see what we can find in the waters surrounding Gansbaai! It was a gloomy start to the day however the sharks had no problem with the cloudy skies and we had our first shark approach the boat not too long after we arrived. This was a juvenile male approximately 2.5m in length, of which we have be seeing over the last few days. This little male was quite playful and stuck around for the first two cages before disappearing, making way for our second shark, a larger female, just over 3.0m in length, and a shark we have seen nearly every trip since our sharks returned to the bay last Saturday after their 23 day “holiday”.
The second trip of the day had it’s first shark within moments of anchoring, however this little shark did not stick around and a wait ensued however with time more sharks showed up including the largest of the day an estimate 4.2m female, with a male not too much smaller also visiting. The last shark of the trip was the same female from the first trip but this afternoon she took a liking to a Giant Petrel that had landed on the waters surface nearby, this bird narrowly escaped the sharks attempts and flew off unharmed. The trip also had a huge “superflock” of cormorants flying by and some Bottlenose dolphins on the way back to the harbour.
