Conditions: Clear skies and little swell with an increasing wind throughout the day causing some chop on the water.
It was a very early wake up call for our guests today with the boat arriving on anchor at 7am. The sharks didn’t appear to mind with the first White shark spotted after only a 20 minute wait. We saw some juveniles and sub-adults this morning with the largest the first shark estimated at 3.8m in length. Two of our well known males appeared towards the end of the trip with “Pieter” and “Spaghetti” making an appearance as well as another species of elasmobranch, the Short-tailed stingray.
The second trip of the day started off well with sharks around from the beginning. “Pieter” returned for this trip as deid another male from the first trip however the other three were new arrivals for the day and included “Orion” and “Paisley” a small male known for three dark spot scars on his head and a large female we were lucky enough to attached an acoustic tag to on the 1st of December last year. The Short-tailed stingray yet again came gliding out of the depths for our second group of the day.
The third and final trip of the day followed similar to our previous trips with minimal waiting time as our sharks appeared about five minutes after we did. “Pieter” went for a triple-trip day with our last group of the day also seeing one of the 10 Iconic White sharks Marine Dynamics has gotten to know over the years.. “Orion” also returned and we had two new sharks both limited in any identifiable scars. The Short-tailed stingrays were yet again an added presence around the boat this afternoon.
