Visibility: 1.0m + 1.5m
Number of Sharks: 8 + 4
Conditions: Clear skies and little swell with a south wind causing some chop on the water.
The water temperature appears to be dropping with waters getting colder and colder with each morning we head out however we must remember that even if we don’t like these cooler waters it is infact favourable to the White sharks as was seen today with some fantastic sightings around our boat, Slashfin.
Trip 1
The first trip had a small wait of 10 minutes, just enough time to get the divers into their wetsuits! This first shark to visit was a large male, approximately 4.0m in length, it was the largest shark of the day. Whilst it did not stick around many more arrived in it’s place with a good mix of sizes around this morning and both males and females. This trip saw two of our well known juvenile males that are currently in the bay, with both “Orion” and “Spaghetti” turning up for the Marine Dynamics team and our guests.
Trip 2
The second trip of the day was dominated by the male White sharks with all four of the sharks visiting Slashfin during this trip turning out to be smaller males. These four are sharks were have previously seen in the area, two of the larger ones are not so active around the boat however the other two we know very well. One is close to 3.0m in length and has some nice, distinctive notches in the trailing edge of the dorsal fin whilst the other is a little smaller, measuring in at approximately 2.5m in length and is affectionately referred to as “Spaghetti” due to the remnants of a tag on the rightside under the dorsal fin that looks much like a spaghetti tag, a recapture method used in some fish species. These two well known males were the most active of the trip and stuck around for the trip, allowing our guests nearly constant sight of a White shark!
