16/03/2018

Location: Joubertsdam
Water Temperature: 15.7°C + 16.0°C
Depth: 8.2m + 7.9m
Visibility: 0.5m + 0.5m
Number of White sharks: 1 + 2
Conditions: Slight, rolling swell with light wind blowing throughout the day.

A bright and early start to the day but with a lot of early and not so much bright as we launched right as the sun was trying to make it’s way up and the clouds began to clear. We had a Copper shark appear very quickly after anchor however it did not stick around and soon the reason appeared cleared as a White shark glided up to the back of the boat took a quick dive and disappeared into the murky depths. Thankfully she came back, the female we estimate around the 4.0m mark with darkly coloured pigmented scaring on both of the dorsal fin. She showed some beautifully active behaviour for her first few passes before sticking low and moving off elsewhere. The Copper sharks and even a Short-tailed stingray came and went throughout the day with the Great White sharks also choosing the moments they wanted to show themselves. All in all a successful day with three different White sharks sighted, two females including the one previously mentioned, one with the L-shaped chunk out of the tail and not to be forgotten Mini Nemo who came by in the early afternoon before the Marine Dynamics team and guests finished up for the day.
