Sharky Sunday anyone?! We headed over to the shallows this morning a little later than usual, but anchored up and got the cage all ready for our guests in the lovely morning sunshine. Visibility wasn’t crystal today, but we were joined first by our copper sharks, with 4 circling us at one point then out of the gloom Sarko announced herself to the party! With a couple of energetic passes she was gone as quick as she arrived. Fear not though, a very small female around 2m joined us for some really smooth passes. Up next was Gqibigame, who was full of energy and displayed the pure power of the white shark with some stunning aerial activity. To round of the morning nicely the larger 3.8m female glided on in towards Slashfin giving us some fantastic photo opportunities, and a real sense of the size these beautiful animals can start growing towards! She’s not quite Scarlett size, but she’s getting there!
The second trip launched and did not have long to wait at all for the sharks to turn up. First to arrive was the Copper sharks but at this time we had eyes on a White shark further out in our scent trail slowly making it’s way towards us. Once this shark appeared we were able to identify her as the last shark of the first trip, a female just under 4.0m in length and one that has some beautiful behaviour as seen over the last two days since we first had her show up. She appeared throughout most of the trip however as the trip went on she visited less and less, especially with the other two additions including our little, feisty female named ‘Sarko’ and a new sighting for us this season and an absolute whooper with a female estimate just under 5.0m in length, the largest we have seen for months, possibly this year! This female is covered in extensive scars and unfortunately she did not stick around long enough or at surface for a good fin identification photograph (how we can tell individual White sharks apart) we truly hope we will see more of this animal over the next few days.
