Trip 1
A early morning yet again for Marine Dynamics and our visitors on the first trip, with the boat out on the water at sunrise. The past fews days the waiting time for the sharks to arrive has been a lengthy one, usually between 1 – 1.5 hours, something we are used to in our low season, however today the first shark was spotted only 40 minutes after arrival. This morning’s trip was dominated by the females, with one of the boat’s favourite sharks, “Mandy”, showing up and causing the most excitement on the boat.
Trip 2
Back out on the water for our second trip of the day and the sharks were around within 15 minutes, yet again it was the females that showed up. Activity was a little on the slow side in the beginning, but “Mandy” yet again came to the rescue and had the same fantastic behaviour we have seen yesterday and this morning, a truly fascinating shark to watch, she has no issues with the Short-tailed stingrays that sometimes appear around the boat and send other sharks in the opposite direction and she is quite curious and happy to explore around the boat and cage.
Trip 3
The third and final trip launched and had sharks soon after arriving back at our cage. The first shark spotted was a juvenile female that was named “Sarko” yesterday by an couple from Australia and Ireland, she is a feisty little one that we have been seeing frequently the past week or so however she didn’t stick around once a larger female entered. The second shark was none other than “Mandy” a shark approximately 3.0m in length, she didn’t waste time introducing herself to our new guests and showing why she is one of the favourite sharks in the bay at the moment. Unfortunately both our juvenile females left us when yet again another female, much larger than the other two, showed up. This female was quite pale along her dorsal surface with minimal scarring and is a new animal to be observed from Slashfin since the seasonal and site change back into our Summer diver area of the Shallows. This female was the largest shark of the day, at close to 4.0m in length, she really did wow those on board however she left us shortly after our third group entered the cage and we began the long wait for a sighting. Unfortunately neither the previous sharks seen or any new ones showed up for the remainder of our trip, however, with the current touch and go activity of the sharks in the bay we were very lucky to experience such amazing activity for the majority of our trip this afternoon.
