When working with wildlife, you never know what you may see when we head out for the day. Would we see sharks? If so, what kind? Our first trip began with a Southern Right whale spotted 100 meters from our boat. As we were at the end of whale season in this area this was an extra special treat. Suddenly, a large shaow appeared near our boat. We were in luck! A large 3.5m female White shark surface, giving everyone a great view. It was a very active shark making several psses for the bait and decoy. It spent quite some time with us before disappearing. Luckily a seal popped up in front of the cage, showing off its’ quick swimming skills, before disappearing as fast as it arrived, the reason why was soon clear as the Great White returned, giving some more fantastic views before the group finished their trip and returned to land.

As we launched for the second trip we were anxious to see if the White shark had stuck around, and luckily it did. We had some amazing passes as we watched the shark choose between the decoy and bait, sometimes even trying for both consecutively! What a jaw-dropping sight!

The third and final trip of the day launched well after midday and made its’ way back onto anchor in the Shallows. Once on anchor the new group waited patiently hoping that they would be just as lucky as the previous two trips. It was when everyone had settled and was talking amongst each other and distracted by other sights that the shark appeared, gliding out from the depths, one of our guests on the top deck was first to see her. This was the same female from the early trips, and she proceeded to make some beautiful passes before disappearing into the distance and approaching again after some time.

A successful day out on the water for Marine Dynamics, with three out of three trips getting to see a Great White shark!
