Trip 1
Today patience proved to be a virtue. However, beautiful sunshine and calm seas made the wait much more enjoyable. Our first trip started with an hour and 15 minute wait before our first shark arrived. It was quickly joined by a very large shark with a distinct bent pectoral fin. It was a 4.2 meter long shark that looked like it wanted to high 5 our divers! After about 30 minutes, “Sarko” arrived, awing everyone on board with a great show. We returned to shore via Gansbaai harbor and spotted some seals playing just outside the harbor.
Trip 2
The sharks from the first trip were still there when our second trip launched. Everyone always loves seeing animals that weren’t expected to be seen! There wasn’t any wait for this trip, as a 1.8 meter shark with propeller wounds to its caudal was around the boat as our divers got ready. Thirty minutes later “Sarko” returned, showing off to our divers. She was accompanied by “A Shark Has No Name” and “Karim.” Whenever “ASHNN” comes by the boat, all of our Game of Thrones fans loves the show put on. “ASHNN” did not disappoint! “Karim” is a recently tagged female shark that we’ve actually seen a lot lately. She has a very noticeable wound at the bottom of her dorsal fin and a a small tear to the trailing edge of the dorsal fin. She is a very charismatic shark, constantly going for the decoy and bait line again and again.
Trip 3
Karim also returned during our last trip, unfortunately she took almost an hour to return. However, as I said earlier, patience proved to be a virtue. During our wait, 2 humpback dolphins and 2 stingrays came by the boat. Then “Karim” came by wth 2 other sharks, one a 3.4 meter male and one a 2.7 meter recently tagged shark. Within 5 minutes “3-Bird” also came by. I noticed several new scars covering her body and face. She is a very active shark so she probably gets herself into a few fights with other sharks and maybe even some attempts at seals. After 30 minutes 2 more sharks arrived, a 3.7 meter shark and a 3.5 meter shark, both with scars on their caudal. About 20 minutes before the end of the trip, a very active 3.3 meter recently tagged shark, with propeller scars on its caudal, came by and put on a show for our divers. It was a great end to a day full of beautiful sharks and sunshine.
