The sharks were back in the shallows today and so were we! With the previous two days that we experienced slow activity we were a bit anxious as to what would meet us out on the water today. Thankfully we had only anchored for a few minutes when the first shark was spotted and before everyone was dressed into their wetsuits we had four different sharks around us! Now numbers are not always the best indicator for how a trip may go, we may have many sharks around but if they’re not active then it can be a bit of a slow day, however today we had a trifecta…the numbers, the activity and a variety of sizes to show off! Three of the sharks we had today were ones we know quite well and also animals that have been visiting both the Island and shallows, that is “Maureen”, the satellite SPOT tagged shark, “Dolphin Fin”, a juvenile male who has been showing off with the big boys the last few weeks and “Fishing Line Shark”, one of our favourites to have around as Marine Dynamics played a crucial part in her survival (see here for more details). The most active shark of the day turned out to be an averaged sized female with a big resemblance to the shark our boat is named after, “Slashfin”. This female had a similar injury to her dorsal fin and brought a wow factor to the trip with her fast paced turns and leaps. We were also very lucky and surprised on both occasions to witness not one but two full breaches this trip, unfortunately due to the stealth of these creatures neither breach was captured by anyone on board, alas I’m sure its something most of our passengers today are not likely to forget! A truly magnificent, overwhelmingly good day with the White Sharks, we hope our visitors enjoyed it as much as we did…
