Trip 1
What a fantastic day to end the week. The conditions were enjoyable this morning as we headed out of Kleinbaai harbour and into the Shallows. The sharks had us waiting a little this morning however just on 45 minutes after anchor we had our first shark appear quickly followed by the second, these two smaller sharks, both around 3.0m in length did not stick around, quite possibly due to our third shark of the morning, an absolutely beautiful male just under 4.5m in length that came cruising in right up against the cage. Such a great sight especially a male of such size around the boat at this time of the year and to see such activity. “Mini Rosie” one of our favourites in the bay then arrived and most of the other sharks disappeared. We see this frequently and it appears that “Mini Rosie” dominates the waters and the others give her that space. Things then got very quite however after a little patience the sharks re-appeared and we had a great end to the trip with “Mini Rosie” still around and some fesity juveniles joining in as well including two small males we have seen frequently over the last few weeks that are easily identifiable by the markings and dorsal fins as well as a large female that make a fast, surprise attempt on the seal decoy.

Trip 2
The second trip of the day saw the wind picking up a little causing some chop on the water however it was still a great day to be out on the sea. The first shark for this trip was spotted about 20 minutes after we arrived and was seen approaching the boat from a distance as it cruised on the surface. Once this first shark arrived other too followed it in. The sharks we saw this afternoon included only one we are very familiar with, a small male we have been seeing for the last two weeks with a hook in the left side of his jaw. This hook will hopefully rust out and thankfully there is no fishing line trace left attached that could lead to entanglement. The other sharks around the boat included some of the impressively large males, including those over 4.0m in length, that we don’t know so well but are so happy to see.
