26/02/2017

Location: Joubertsdam

Water Temperature: 13.8’C

Visibility: 0.5m

Number of Sharks: 0

Conditions: Clear skies with a light wind and slight swell.

It has now been 17 days since the crew on board Slashfin has seen a White shark (last blog with sighting can be read here). We had hoped that after more than 2 weeks we may just be in luck today, unfortunately the sharks did not show up on this morning’s trip. There is much debate as to what may have caused this scarcity of sharks in the Gansbaai region, the Dyer Island Conservation Trust’s Biologist, Alison Towner has written of some of the factors that could be influential in the sharks disappearing from the area when previously experienced, January 2016 which can be seen here.

We are all hoping to have better news soon.
