We left the harbour this morning to the potential of a beautiful sunrise. As day began to break the sunrise was stunning coming over the distant mountains casting shades of orange and pink in the sky. So with the sunrise thoroughly covered let’s get onto the sharks. They turned out in good numbers today with very consistent activity throughout the trip. Our first shark popped up out of the murky water this morning pretty quickly. This shark was a biggy around 4m in size with a 90 degree bend on the right pectoral of the animal. So cue the divers to get in the cage. This shark was particularly active for our first group of divers, and while the visibility wasn’t stunning this morning, this individual gave us some great aerial activity. Soon followed by a smaller shark at close to 3.6m, who was with us for a few passes and cruised off for the remainder of the morning. Our third shark was a large 4m male, whose large claspers were very evident when he turned at the surface of the water. We had a couple of young and eager cage divers on board with us this morning, 3 little girls awestruck by the beauty of the animals on the other side of the cage. We had a couple of nice passes from the male that we saw a couple of weeks ago with the clamp marks around his dorsal fin, he was in more of  a chilled out mood this morning gliding by the cage. As if we hadn’t had enough wildlife action this morning on the way back into the harbour we had a very lucky sighting of a southern right whale! This individual gave us some lovely tail flukes as we slowly cruised by the whale at a safe distance.

Our second trip of the day was a private charter with a family from America. We had a short wait of about 20 minutes and in total had visits from 4 different white sharks, most of which had been seen on the first trip. We ended this trip with a trip to shark alley to take a turn past Geyser Rock where our colony of 60,000 Cape fur seals reside. With the wind picking up, we made our way back into the harbour to head back up to the Great White House to warm up.
