Location: Joubertsdam

Water Temperature: 15.0°C + 15.1°C + 15.2°C

Depth: 9.5m + 9.0m + 10.0m

Visibility: 3m + 3m + 3m

Number of Great Whites: 4 + 2 +

Conditions: Cold start but the sun came out late morning with calm seas

As we headed out for our first trip this morning we got to our anchor spot as the sun was coming up over the mountains casting some beautiful rays across the cloud line. We got our cage in the water, and within minutes we had clampy circling the cage! Original clampy at close to 4m gave our first group of divers a stunning display of power and grace. Its lovely to see that she is back in the bay, but leaves us wondering where she has been for the last couple months! We had a second shark pass deep under the bait line before male clampy came up to join us! We think there is at least 4 different sharks in the bay with these markings on them at the moment which is super interesting! He gave us some very nice quick passes by the cage. Followed by a female at around 3.4m who got nice and close to the cage for our last group of divers. We got a bonus on the way back in to the harbour as we sighted a Southern Right Whale fluke in the distance. And then some closer individuals surfacing calmly in the shallows.

For our second trip, we had an exclusive charter for 2 gentlemen from Brazil. As we got back to our anchor site the wind had changed so we quickly repositioned our anchor to maximise our opportunity of seeing sharks. While we set the anchor, we saw a couple more Southern Right Whales come across the bow of Slashfin, a very nice sighting indeed! We didn’t have to wait long for a shark either. We had the 3.4m female from the 1st trip. She came and went through the trip and we also got a small 2m shark with some dark pigmentations across the right flank. With our cage dive complete we headed back in for our third trip of the day.

As we got to the cage on our third trip, we waited less than 5 minutes before our first white shark, so cue the first group of divers and lets get sharky!
