Bright and early seems to be a theme for Marine Dynamics at the moment with another early launch onboard Slashfin. The early wake up may not be nice but there are positives to getting out on the water at such a time, such as being one of the first boats out and being able to choose a anchor spot easily and usually it is a beautiful time of the day to enjoy the amazing scenery this area has to offer. This morning was no different.
Marine Dynamics first trip was on anchor by 7am in the Shallows and as our guests were wiggling into their wetsuits the first shark appeared, a Copper shark. Things were a little slow for the trip but when the sharks were around the activity for great with nice close passes for our guests. A Copper shark we have become aquainted with other the last 4 weeks appeared today, a large female, estimated at approximated 2.5m in length, something that would be classified as an adult female, and one that is easy to identify due to its very blunt-looking snout, to the point she has taken on somewhat of a Bull shark appearance.
The second trip of the day launched on board Slashfin and back onto anchor we went, yet again we had sharks around quickly, including the large female Copper shark from the previous trip with the stubbed nose. She made some truly impressive passes, coming in as close as possible and so very slow so that we were able to have some amazing views of this lovely animal. With the end of this trip we were two trips down for the day and no White shark sightings but some amazing shark sighings nonetheless.
Slashfin was back at it for it’s third and final trip and this one followed much the same pattern as the previous two. The Copper shark appeared quickly and whilst there were slow after this there was a very nice sighting of this bronzed beauty. Once the shark watching had finished there was a surprise for our guests in the form of Humpback dolphins, a semi residentual dolphin species in this area which can be found in the shallow waters of the bay if we are lucky.
Marine Dynamics had one more trip this afternoon but on board the younger sister to Slashfin, Dream Catcher. This boat set off for it’s shark cage diving trip at 1pm and made it’s way into the Shallows to try it’s best with Slashfin in the search for White sharks. The fourth trip did the trick with a White shark very briefly turning up at the beginning of the trip, when we say briefly we mean quickly swam by and disappeared into the depths before we could even identify as a specific individual and unfortunately many if not most of the guest did not see as it was so quick. This trip had the same luck with the Copper sharks as its’ sister boat, with some lovely sighings of the snub-nosed female and a lovely afternoon to be out on the water to enjoy such sightings, with a clear, sunny day and light breeze.
