Fridays’ first Great White shark was seen cruising just below the waters’ surface off the back of the boat. It took a short while for this individual to come close enough for us all to have a good look but she did. Estimated at approximately 4.0m in length this shark made a slow but impressive approach on the seal decoy and then came back two other times during the trip for a pass. This allowed our guests a nice view but also the crew a chance to have a look for any feature that would allow us to identify this individual correctly and capture photographs to help identify the shark, and whilst the scars on it’s head and missing tip to the caudal fin are very similar to one of our favourite females, Scarlett, it appears that this is a lookalike.
The second trip of the day saw a slow start with the group showing great patience as they waited for their first shark sighting, and after a quick anchor change one just happened to appear. It was the larger shark from the first trip that showed up, again making a pass before disappearing and then doing so a few more times before the end of the trip.
A slow but successful day out on the water for the Marine Dynamics team and guests, with what appears to be a new shark in the bay!
