Trip 1
We were all interested what sort of conditions and activity we would be seeing today after a slow weekend with the sharks in the bay and a day off due to some bad weather conditions coming through and whilst the waters may have been murky from this the temperature was still relatively high, for this area at least, and the shark activity was FINtastic. The first trip anchored and within no time we had a first shark, a small juvenile female. This turned out to be the theme of the trip with all our sharks this morning being between the 2.5 – 3.2m size range and whilst they might have been small they certainly made up for it with the active behaviour they displayed around the boat. We also had a Short-tailed Stingray coming and going during the morning.
Trip 2
The second trip of the day had a shark in sight as we approached our anchor site, and they didn’t stop coming this afternoon with a shark in view most of the trip. We had many of our juveniles from this morning turn up again however we had three larger White sharks arrive this afternoon as one around the 3.5m length appeared and two over 4.0m in length making their presence known. Much similar to this morning though is the fact that these sharks are not too well known to the Marine Dynamics team, perhaps a new bunch of sharks moving into the bay as we see different individuals constantly as they are known to be a highly migratory species. However, one shark this afternoon we happen to know well and have for close to 2 years now after it became part of our biopsy program in 2015. The Short-tailed stingray was yet again an added extra to this trip.
Last but not least the crew and team at Marine Dynamics would like to say Happy Birthday to Victoria who celebrated her Birthday with us on our second trip!
