The day started with a lovely flat sea and very little wind. We launched from Gansbaai harbour and came around the scenic Danger Point peninsula where the British wreck of the HMS Birkenhead lies at 30m. On anchoring, we were faced with a wait but then, ‘Little Roundy’, a distinctive juvenile shark made the first trip special for our divers. On trip 2 he also saved the day. Our guests on trip 3 saw things getting a bit slower shark wise and the majority of the trip we spent waiting for sharks. However ‘Little Roundy’ did pay us a visit for cage 1 and 2 then a larger shark of 4.0m made one pass, showing our guests just how much this species of shark varies in weight with length. One real highlight for us today was the awesome stingray who joined us on trip 3 and actually went for the bait a couple of times! Our divers saw her from the cage as well. White sharks are wild animals and are very seasonal visitors to Gansbaai so we understand that some days are slower than others. Still, we feel we were very lucky to see them, despite the long waiting periods.
