06/07/13 Trip 1
Location: East Dyer Island
Visibility: 7m+
Water Temp: 14.7’C
Sharks Sighted: 8
Conditions: Fine and calm early on becoming windy later in the trip

A fantastic start to the trip as we attracted several sharks in quick succession. Of note were, ‘Hourglass Rosie’ a very large female who we’ve seen every winter since 2007; ‘Maureen’ who’s equally as large was tagged by the Ocearch last year and a small male shark who spends hours chasing kelp gulls up and down the chum line! Maureen has travelled from the Western Cape to Mozambique and Madagascar in the last year but has been back in Gansbaai for the past 3 to 4 months and is one of the largest female around at the moment. Just as we were coming to the end of the trip we were joined by an extremely feisty young shark – by far the smallest of the trip at only 2 and a bit meters, he/she zigzagged back and forth in front of the cage for minutes at a time to give the trip a spectacular finally.
