Daily trip 26 May 2012 | Great White Shark Cage Diving Gansbaai

Today was one of those special Dyer island days, the type of day we wish for all year round. As we anchored, I looked down into the water and every rock on the sea bed was visible, this meant  one thing, if we got sharks, our group were in for a stunning dive! After only a ten minute wait, we were blessed with the presence of Slashfin, one of our all time favourite male sharks, who is now looking incredible at 4.5m in length. I’ve been watching this shark return to Dyer island for five years and he has grown substantially the past two years- both in lenght and width. In all, 14 sharks paid us a visit raning in size from 2.9-4.5m TL both males and females. Other familar fins included Zane (a 4.0m male whom which we actively tracked last year- see www.dict.org.za,  and Dorien a 2.9m satellite tagged  female from the recent Ocearch expedition). One shark  was accompanied by a small remora fish on the right side fthe dorsal fin (see picture).Incrdieble dives were had by all, and to top it all off ,a pod of  approx 50 bottlenose dolphin fled past the boat in the distance. The speed at which they swam and tight nitted nature of their pod indiated that they were fully aware of white shark abundance around the island!
