Clearing conditions saw a great day aboard Slashfin, with minimal swell and only slight winds. Both our trips for the day saw an abundance of Great Whites. A new shark was seen around Slashfin today, with the tip of its dorsal fin missing and scratches seen all along its body, especially its trunk. It is always an exciting time when we have new additions at the boat. We also saw the return of “Malcolm X”, one of our large feisty females, who proved that she hadn’t lost her touch in surprising divers on board and in the cage with her size, speed and agility! Our largest shark of the day was the 5m female we had first sighted at the start of the week. This shark likes to tease! She comes slowly up from the depths, her shadow growing in size as she nears the surface, she takes a few passes and disappears again… not to be seen until the next trip or day. It would be great to see more of this shark around the boat as it shows our divers that these sharks of great size, which are often compared to “Jaws”, are calm, graceful and curious creatures and to also educate people about the fact that Great Whites must reach a larger size, and in turn, older age to reproduce and thus, long-term protection is a must if we wish to continue to see these amazing creatures! What an absolute “toothtastic” day aboard Slashfin…
