We were in for a real adventure as we headed out this afternoon, with some serious swell around! After first heading into Joubertsdam to check conditions we decided diving at the Island would be a better choice for the particular conditions of today. One of our first sharks to arrive was also one of the last seen before we left, a large female with a distinctive notch on her dorsal fin and an old scar running vertically down the right side of her trunk just in front of her dorsal fin. Today we saw the return of a shark given the nickname “Mattie” by our volunteers due to an M-shaped scar on the right side of her trunk. It was great to see her around the boat again after being absent for a few weeks as she is very active and tends to enjoy leaping in front of the cage! The highlight of the day however goes to a very feisty 2.5m juvenile male, giving the boat a real show as he stayed with us the whole trip, slowly gliding, jaws agape, in from the left, right and front…
