We were escorted out of the harbour this morning by a flock of Cape Cormorants easily numbering in the thousands, obviously enjoying the fresh morning air as we ourselves were too! We didn’t have long to wait for our first toothy fish today with the arrival of a shark only 5 minutes after arriving at our dive sight. Our first shark of the day was “fishing line shark”, with its distinctive scar around its trunk from fishing line entanglement. This shark is great for our divers to see as it shows the damage that can be inflicted on marine animals by discarded line and rubbish. It is also a good example of how well sharks can heal. The morning trip was also a fantastic trip to show those on board the varying sizes of Great Whites we have in the bay, with our smallest at 2.5m and our largest at 4.7m. We had some great passes allowing all our divers to experience what it’s like to be in the presence of a Great White beneath the water! Our second trip of the day also had a variety of sized sharks but with the addition of “Big Momma”, our 5m female! We also saw the return of a shark seen 2 days ago with the top of the dorsal fin taken off and quite significant scaring along both sides of the trunk, we were able to get a closer look today to check out these marks and that distinguishing fin…
