Sun shining, tick! Calm waters, tick! Great sharks, tick! Improving visibility, tick! An absolutely incredible trip out on the bay today. We hadn’t even anchored yet when we were treated to the sight of a large shadow deep beneath the surface off the starboard side of the boat. Once anchored, it was only a 5 minute wait for our first shark to appear at the surface. This happened to be a female approximately 3.3m in length, she also happened to be our last shark of the day as she continued to visit us throughout the trip. This shark is easily recognisable by a healing scar on the frontal edge of her dorsal fin and rope abrasions on her snout. We were also visited quickly by a shark seen only recently at Slashfin with fishing line entangled around the right pectoral fin. Hopefully in the future we will have a chance to cut the line free! Thanks to the great conditions on the water today we were able to go and visit Shark Alley and have a look at the seals on Geyser Rock. We found the seals a lot more playful and confident in the water, with some swimming up to the boat. It appears they are using the near perfect conditions to drop the caution of previous days and were venturing further out for a feed and to cool down. Would have been hard to come across a better day…
