We launched from Gansbaai harbour this morning due to low water tides and took the beautiful journey around Danger Point to our dive site in Joubertsdam. The sharks were circling our cage upon arrival and were being feisty right from the get go! The 3.6m female shark with the suckerfish on her dorsal fin was coming around again for us today, and she was providing lots of fantastic photo opportunities with her attempts on the bait line. We had a vast range of sizes throughout the day with sharks measuring between 2.5m up to 4.6m! The impressive 4.6m shark was sporting a satellite tag on her dorsal fin, and is believed to be an 1100kg shark known as Kathryn. She was tagged by OCEARCH in False Bay in April 2012 and has since travelled to Madagascar and passed to the depths of the Indian Ocean. She is large not only in length, but also in girth, being a very round shark! She was constantly coming up for the decoy and being incredibly interactive for a shark her size, she really had everyone’s eyes popping…
